The premise of the Institute is an attempt to reduce the segregation between traditional scientific research and technological areas -- trying to solve the problems that can't be solved by one discipline alone. There are twenty-plus groups within Beckman Institute, from Artificial Intelligence to Human Performance and Perception to Cognitive Neuroscience.
