Starting with a chestnut cedar strip,then grumman, then kevlar and now entering my 80th year,it was time to get an even lighter canoe to take me through the next decade.Test paddling a kipawa impressed me, particularly in windy conditions ( sitting for a long day in the canoe would be more comfortable with some padding on the seats).So to get a much lighter weight, I bought the kevlar fusion with integrated gunnels which weighs 35 lbs.
Upon close inspection, I realized that this canoe was built by unusually skilful workers who obviously took great pride in their product. Such careful design and outstanding craftsmanship deserves to be entered in to a craft competition where surely it would be identified as a reflection of Canada's artistic skills. I not only acquired a very light canoe that could take me into my 90's, but also a work of art. Thanks to the craftsmen. Rob Butler 24/10/08.
