n fact there are two "Free Universities" in Brussels. Like almost every institution in Belgium, the Brussels university has been split up (in 1969) into a French and a Dutch-speaking part, respectively the "Universit Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)" and the "Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)". A present, VUB has about 7500 students, ULB about the double.
