Gush Shalom was formed in 1992 by Uri Avnery and others, in the aftermath of the infamous deportation without trial of 415 Palestinians, by Rabin's "Peace Coalition government"

The Division for Palestinian Rights, in accordance with a mandate given by the United Nations General Assembly in resolution 46/74 B of 11 December 1991, established in 1993 and has since been gradually developing the United Nations Information System on the Question of Palestine (UNISPAL).
